90-day Auctions

CollectorsBookMarket Auctions use Proxy Bidding (like eBay), can have a Reserve Price and/or a Purchase Now option, and have 1 to 90 day durations.  The winner of an Auction is the person with the highest bid at the end of the auction.

CollectorsBookMarket auctions can be used to sell any merchandise, but the 90-day format is designed to give booksellers a new option for selling off unwanted inventory.

For example:. A bookseller decides to cull some quality books that have been listed competitively for significant prices, but have not sold.
The options are:

  • Donate or dispose of the books
       No return
  • Reduce the prices on the seller's regular venues by a modest percentage.
Chances of selling the items quickly are small.
  • Reduce the prices on the seller's regular venues by a dramatic percentage.
Chances of selling the items quickly are somewhat improved, but the seller realizes only a minimum return.
  • Reduce the price dramatically and list the item for a 7 or 10 day auction on eBay.
Items without high demand (found by searches on a strong "keyword") are often 'buried' on eBay and sell for the starting bid if at all.
  • List the items at 90-day auction on CollectorsBookMarket with a starting bid at the dramatically reduced price, but with a Purchase Now Option at the modestly reduced price.
Buyers have the option of waiting 90 days to get the dramatically reduced price, or, if they don't want to wait or take the chance of being outbid, they can use the Purchase Now option at the higher price.  Because of CollectorsBookMarket's visually oriented format and the multiple browsing options, the items will attract a lot more attention than a standard listing on the fixed-price sites (sellers can watch the items' view counters to see how many eyeballs their book receives).
